Successfully managing trading book alone for an entire week after having only been in the role for 2 months.
It’s a dynamic and cutting edge industry where you are given to opportunity to continually work at your full potential – and use any number of different skills.
They’re a niche player with a highly reputable presence in the market. Small enough to get you away from the monotony often experienced by graduates at larger institutions. Yet large enough to still be cutting-edge in their specialist fields. The culture is also something that is unparalleled. It’s extremely unique!
I had three interviews with three senior people and was given an offer shortly afterwards. Each interview was very different – which is a great summary of KBC FP in general. No one person is the same.
The two tips that I can give are (1) be well prepared and (2) do not lie. If you’ve got something on your CV, don’t be surprised if they ask you about it.
The size and culture here are unique. Teams are generally small compared to other similar businesses. But they are extremely well respected in their respective markets because of their cutting-edge and intuitive approach. The size of each team also means that you are not a small cog lost in a big machine. Rather you’re achievements are quickly recognized and your scope for responsibility is potentially unlimited!
To be challenged and stretched to my full potential. I knew this industry would be a challenge but I never realized that a challenge could be so fun.
This is an impossible question to answer. Some days I may be trading for the whole day. Others, I may be reading research or stress testing financial models – as well as a variety of other different things. The one thing that happens everyday is making sure that I am on top of my market.
I definitely feel intellectually challenged. Being surrounded by so many smart people from different backgrounds helps you broaden your horizon.
I’m given significant responsibility! I trade huge volumes and the output of any ideas is often used to take significant decisions.
I am a buy side trader so I am the client!
If you are motivated and driven you will move along in your career very quickly.
The people here definitely make it all worthwhile.
To be successful a graduate you must be willing to learn a lot very quickly – and be able to juggle a variety of different tasks. Do not expect to get pigeon-holed. Ultimately you must be driven as you will not get spoon fed.
The flat management structure means that interaction with senior members of staff is a daily thing. If you have an idea that?s well thought out and researched, you can and will make a difference.
Everyone is treated with a lot of respect. There is no looking up or down at people.
The training is very hands on. The only way to learn how to swim is to get wet!
Working along side market experts means that any questions that arise are very easily and well answered.
I get in trouble if I stay in the office too late. A healthy work/life balance is the only way to get any longevity in this industry. This is something that is highly promoted at KBC FP.
There’s no dress code. But there’s Foosball!
Usually 7 to 7. If I’m finished at 5, I will leave at 5. But the same also applies if the shoe’s on the other foot!
They’re very smart – and from all walks of life. You get to learn a lot socially – and, as a result, you become a better rounded person.
We get on very well. We work very closely.
I love the challenge of the job. The fast pace of the industry – and the cutting-edge nature of the firm – means that your are continually chasing a curve.
Professionally I have learned a little bit about all product lines in KBC FP and a lot about my area in particular. I have also gained much better time management and prioritization skills which can easily be transferred into your everyday life. I have also learned how to interact with a variety of different people.
To become one of the pioneers in the industry. To create something that will really make a difference. With support at KBC FP this is not an unobtainable goal.
As a team we often go for drinks and dinner as well as other activities, such as performance car driving days and golf.

Any issues I face can be taken up with any number of people within the team – without fear of title.
I am a fun, playful person. I understand my responsibility and can easily adapt into serious mode when the situation calls for it.
